Camp Mother Goose Time

We just completed our first week of the July Mother Goose Time Camping theme. This week was all about being at the campsite. We learned so much about camping and the supplies needed to go camping. I have been inspired to actually go on a real camping trip, I've never been camping and now we are planning on taking a trip next year since we are to late and don't have the supplies we need to go this year.

So far we have learned about backpacks and what to pack to go on a camping trip or even a long hike. We also talked about tents and problems that can come about while camping. We played a fun game called Tent Troubles. We put cards that listed scenarios of possible camping troubles in our pocket cube and then we rolled the cube and came up with solutions. It was so fun to hear their ideas on how to solve the problems. We also built a little blanket fort that we are keeping up this month to be our tent. We imagined that it was our tent that we were trying to keep safe while playing the game.

We also talked about sleeping bags and learned that there are different kinds of sleeping bags you can get depending on the weather and time of year you go camping. We learned about fire safety on the day we talked about campfires and we built some cute fire sticks that we are putting by our living room campsite.

The last day of the week was wrapped up with camp music, a fun guitar craft and a hilarious game of Sing a Song. The game used the pocket cube again and came with a spinner. The cube had songs to sing and the spinner told us how we were to sing the songs. It was a lot of fun.

Another fun thing we are adding to the camping theme is a weekly camping themed treat and some poetry reading. This is something we do weekly in our homeschool but I thought it would be fun to stick with the camping theme. So this week we made Pan De Campo which is a camping bread that can be easily made at the campsite over a fire. We used a stove but still had fun making it. It was just like a big biscuit and we had it with honey. I also picked up a great camping poems book at a used book store so we plan on working through that book this month.

I am planning a themed snack for each week this month. Week 2 is called In the Night and we will be learning about camping at night time. So when thinking about a snack for this week I figured it would have to be s'mores! I plan on making s'mores cereal bars to have with our poetry reading. I also want to try to make a solar oven and cook some s'mores with the power of the sun. Week 3 is called On The Trail and I plan on having a make your own trail mix station to go along with the poetry reading for this week. The fourth week is called Down the River and I will probably make some blue jello and have some Swedish Fish with it.

Lets Talk About Manipulatives...And a Give-Away!

I am so excited about this post!  Mother Goose Time has allowed us to do a giveaway with our readers! One lucky winner will win 2 bags of Mother Goose Time manipulatives. It will be a surprise what they give you but let me ease your mind, we have loved all the manipulatives they have sent so far. Each month of Mother Goose Time has a theme and everything you get works with that theme. This means you get a meaningful month of learning that is all planned out for you. Every month you get a new calendar set up as well as numbers, shape, and color to add to your circle time. You also get a storybook and a music CD that is matched to the months theme as well. But, I think the most fun items you get is the hands on stuff. They include a stamp to go along with the shape of the month, cookie cutters of the letters you will be focusing on, and 2 bags of really good quality manipulatives. This Months theme is Nursery Rhymes and we received a bag of sheep counters and a bag of lacing shape

Fun with Sleds

With Christmas coming in just a few short days we decided to take it easy this week. We did lots of cookie baking, present wrapping, and movie watching. For my daughters school work this week we mostly focused on learning about different Christmas traditions from different countries. We then made an ornament to help us remember what we learned for each country. It made for a very fun and meaningful Christmas tree this year. The only part of our normal routine that we continued was our Mother Goose Time . The great thing about this program is how flexible it is. I love that I can really get into a week or even just a day and do everything that is listed in the teacher guide, or I can pick and choose what we do to make it an easy fun day. I liked that even though we weren't really doing a lot of school this week Mother Goose Time helped to make it feel like there was still some structure to the day. We continued our morning routine of calendar, weather, song and a story which helped

Mother Goose Time Goes to the Allergist!

This was a hard week for my daughter. Since we moved we have had to find all new doctors and specialists. It's time for her yearly allergy appointment and she was not looking forward to it. Last year it looked as if she was out growing her egg allergy so we did a food challenge in the doctors office. She passed but complained about her stomach hurting the whole time and even got a hive on her face. I wasn't so sure how much of a pass it really was. We continued giving her egg baked into muffins and she still complained of stomach aches and eventually said her mouth itched. We stopped giving her egg after that. So this year we were going to have her skin tested for egg again to see what the result showed. We saw a new doctor though and this one wanted to recheck a few different foods and he wanted to do a blood test as well so we could compare and get a more accurate result as to what she might be able to tolerate. I was happy, she was not. It was very dramatic. She cried, whine
