We had a sick day today and still managed to utilize our Mother Goose Time Preschool Curriculum to help with any restlessness. My little guy was up pretty much all night with a pretty bad cough and a low grade fever. I don't know about your kids, but mine always seem to be the worst at night. Then they seem to feel a little better during the day until night comes and it starts all over again. I don't expect to get a lot of sleep tonight either. Poor little guy coughed so hard that his back is hurting. But even though we were up most the night because of the cough and some weird fever induced nightmares he still wants to do a little during the day until he realizes that he is tired. So what is one to do when their sick kid thinks they can do things during the day when they are obviously still to sick to do much? Enter Mother Goose Time, a real day saver! We spent the morning reading Nursery Rhymes out of the amazing book that was included in this months box. It has 18 beautifully illustrated Nursery Rhymes included in it and they have both wanted me to read it over and over.

After we read the Nursery Rhymes book we read some of our favorite books off the suggested reading list that Mother Goose Time provides. There have been some great books included in this months suggested reading and it was fun to take the time to read through a few again before they go back to the library. He also played with a few of the make and play projects we had done earlier in the week. A favorite has been the This Little Piggy finger puppets we made on the first day. They both want to get them out and act out the nursery rhyme while we read it.
Another fun make and play activity that we made yesterday was the Baa Baa Black Sheep story pieces. They colored and cut out story pieces and even got a little bag to store them in. He has been playing with these a little today as well. I absolutely love how all the crafts and art really work with the months theme and help to make the nursery rhymes come alive. My kids love anything that has to do with role playing, acting out, and imagination so most of the activities with Mother Goose Time cater wonderfully to this. It has been cute to hear my little sick guy in the bedroom making his sheep say baa and telling the farmer he is ready for his hair cut.
I have said this before, but I can not stress enough how much I love the flexibility of this curriculum. I really appreciate that it has provided something for him to do so he doesn't spend the whole day watching TV. He is watching a movie now, but I think once it is over I will see if he wants to play with the box of manipulatives that we have saved over the last few months. Each month Mother Goose Time provides manipulatives to use with that months theme. This month we got counting sheep and lacing beads. Once we are done I dump them into a box and let the kids play with them. We have all kinds of little animals, and food pieces as well as blocks and beads. They can create small worlds with these items, and sometimes we use them for play dough and sensory trays. During December I pulled out some polar bears we had in there and used it in the play snow we made from our Mother Goose Time Science card. Today I think he will just enjoy quietly playing with some of the animals.
